Why a Small Private Gym Can Make a Big Difference

By Pedro Bernardy
Throughout my career as a trainer in high-end fitness settings, I’ve worked with people who value expert guidance, personal attention and a comfortable place to exercise. Those experiences shaped my approach to coaching—and taught me that the quality of training depends on much more than the size of the facility.
Many of my clients have come from those environments. They appreciate what a small private gym offers: privacy, encouragement, lower costs and training built around their needs.
At our studio, that personal setting also supports something central to my work: helping people learn to use their bodies more effectively.
Privacy That Helps You Feel Comfortable
A busy gym can make it difficult to concentrate, especially when you’re learning new movements or returning to exercise. In a private setting, you have more space to ask questions, practise and work at your own pace.
You don’t need to compare yourself with anyone else. Your session is an opportunity to focus on your body, your goals and your progress.
That privacy allows us to give the details of your movement the attention they deserve.
A Supportive Place to Grow

People arrive with different abilities, experiences and levels of confidence. Good coaching begins by understanding where you are today.
A small gym makes that relationship easier to develop. We can adapt exercises, explain their purpose and give you time to learn. Encouragement and patience are part of the process.
Patricia Grandberry’s testimonial reflects this approach. She describes initially doubting whether she could begin karate later in life, then gaining confidence through modifications, patient instruction and ongoing support. Tim Campion also highlights the attention given to his individual needs and exercise goals. Their experiences show why a supportive environment matters. Read their testimonials.
Lower Costs and More Focused Value
High-end facilities offer attractive amenities, but those extras can add to the cost of training. A smaller private gym can keep costs lower by concentrating on what directly supports your sessions.
The value lies in experienced coaching, appropriate equipment and personal attention. For clients who have trained in luxury environments, this offers a way to continue receiving thoughtful guidance in a more personal setting.
My experience in those facilities stays with me. I bring that same care and professionalism to our studio.
Learning to Use Your Body
Exercise machines have a place in training. They can provide support and help us focus on particular muscles. But machines that guide you along a fixed path also limit the movement choices you practise during that exercise.
Our approach places greater emphasis on using the body as a coordinated whole. Reaching, bending, rotating, balancing, pushing and pulling give us opportunities to develop strength alongside control and awareness.
The aim is to expand your movement possibilities and build skills you can use beyond the gym—when carrying groceries, climbing stairs, gardening or enjoying your favourite activities.
The Movement Efficiency Method
My Movement Efficiency Method combines martial arts, corrective exercise and practical movement principles. It centres on developing awareness, alignment, balance, mobility and coordination so that you can move with less unnecessary effort.
We pay attention to how you perform a movement, as well as how much you can do. Training becomes an opportunity to understand your body and practise moving with greater ease and confidence. Learn about the Movement Efficiency Method.
Douglas Soltesz’s testimonial offers a personal example of what that focus can mean. He describes improvements in flexibility, strength and the fluidity of his movement, and values coaching that respects his limits. His experience reinforces the importance of adapting training to the person. Read Douglas’s testimonial.
A Personal Approach to Lasting Progress
A small private gym brings together the things I value most as a trainer: focused attention, a supportive atmosphere and purposeful movement.
My background in high-end fitness helped shape the standard of care I bring to every session. Our studio gives me the opportunity to apply that experience in a setting where each person has room to learn, practise and progress.
If you’re looking for personal guidance and a more comfortable place to train, I invite you to get in touch. Let’s explore how the Movement Efficiency Method can support your goals.
